Supplying Artwork Files
Supplying files for printing.
When supplying artwork files we will require these to be in vector file format. This ensures the best possible outcome for your printed apparel. Common vector file extensions include .ai, .eps. svg and .pdf. If you are supplying photos we will require these to have a clipping mask and saved as either an .ai, .eps or .pdf file.
I only have an image or raster file?
Though it can present some challenges, it’s possible to convert image or raster files to vector when needed. There will be additional costs involved to do this which we can advise at the time.
What is a vector file?
Vector files use mathematical equations, lines and curves with fixed points on a grid to produce an image. There are no pixels in a vector file. A vector file’s mathematical formulas capture shape, border and fill colour to build an image. Because the mathematical formula recalibrates to any size, you can scale a vector image up or down without affecting its quality.
what is an image or raster file?
A raster file is composed of a set number of pixels, much like a photo. The pixels are fixed and have a specific size. If you increase the size of a raster artwork or logo, you're increasing the size of the pixels, making it look grainy and pixelated. Common raster file extensions are .jpg, .bmp, .gif, or .png.
Supplying files for embroidery.
The process for supplying files for embroidery is slightly different as we need to follow a different process. To enable our machines to read the files we need to "digitise the artwork" which put simply converts the artwork into a digital file using a software that allows embroidery machines to understand the needle’s path. This process is not automated and requires a level of skill to ensure the best outcome for the stitch out of your artwork.
We are able to accept either vector or image/raster files for jobs that only require embroidery. All new jobs are charged a setup fee which covers the cost of providing this service.
At the end of the day if all this just seems like a lot of mumbo jumbo, then give us a call or send us an email and we will be more then happy to go through the process.
